My second baby was born on December 10th 2017. I was nervous about having a winter baby since my first was born in the summer. I was mostly worried about not being able to take my newborn for walks outside. After all, we live just outside Chicago where the weather is unpredictable and cold.

Little did I know, there were little blessings hidden here and there that I overlooked that made having a baby around the holidays even better than having a summer baby!

Top 6 Benefits of having a baby around the holidays

    1. Perfect bonding time. Being winter meant that we didn’t go out as often. In fact, for the first month, we stayed in entirely. It was a perfect time to master nursing and bond with one another in the process. Not to mention, we didn’t have to be outside in the blistering cold and didn’t have to drive in snowy mess.
    2. Avoided the holiday craziness. Having been born just around the holidays meant that we got to avoid all of the holiday crowds and crazy last-minute shoppers. In fact, I had my Husband do all of the Christmas shopping while I focused on online-shopping for any additional things I needed.
    3. Newborn Christmas photography. Because my Son was born just a few weeks from Christmas, we decided to a Christmas-themed newborn photo-shoot. Dressed as Santa, a Snowman and Reindeer, we ended up with the cutest festive photos of my little one!
    4. No need to host.  I was able to get out of Christmas hosting this past December since I was still healing after his birth. What’s more is that family joined us and did the cooking and the cleaning as well! Not having to entertain guests for the holidays is my favorite benefit of having a baby around the holidays!
    5. Clothes. I felt super flabby after having a baby. When I had my first son in the heat of summer, I was forced to wear short sleeve tops and light coverage clothing. Needless to say, I was self-conscious and wished that I could hide in my robe all day. Having had my second in December meant that I could hide behind wearing oversized sweaters and sweatpants while I worked on slowly losing the weight.
    6. Food. With it being around the holidays, we had an abundance of food and sweets brought to us by family and friends–a nursing mamas dream. It was nice not having to cook everyday and could rely on pre-made dishes and yummy desserts to go with my morning tea.

Still using Huggies diapers

These days, we’re finding ourselves consumed by constant crying, feeding sessions, and poopy diapers.

Luckily, we have had a lot of help from family and are slowly mastering managing a newborn and toddler simultaneously–while staying sane.

We’re still using Huggies brand diapers since they provide the best protection! Specifically Huggies Snug & Dry which have four layers to help absorb moisture quickly.

We purchase them from our nearby Meijer store. We love going there since It’s a one-stop shop for everything we need.

They also offer up to 12 hours of protection which means both myself and baby get to sleep a little longer at night.

What’s also been a life saver is the wetness indicator which tells us when It’s time for a diaper change.

Huggies, a founding sponsor of the National Diaper Bank Network since 2011, has provided ongoing support for the organization by donating more than 200 million diapers and baby wipes to those in need.

It’s sad to think that one-in-three U.S. families (36%) struggle to provide diapers to keep their baby or toddler clean, dry, and healthy. It makes me more than thankful to be able to provide for my little one(s) and makes me want to give back to those who need it most.

This holiday season, Meijer partnered with Huggies and for every pack of Huggies purchased, Meijer donated $1 and Huggies donated a day’s worth of diapers to the National Diaper Bank Network, In total, 400k diapers and $10k were donated to the National Diaper Bank Network at the Metropolitan Detroit Diaper Bank on Thursday, January 25th.

Over the last 5 years alone, Huggies and Meijer have donated 1 million diapers to this wonderful organization leaving no child “unhugged”.

Ways to get involved

There are many ways to get involved year-round by donating your Huggies Rewards points, hosting a diaper drive, and volunteering/donating to a local diaper bank.

having a baby around the holidays has been a blessing for many reasons and now, knowing my diapers purchases are going towards such an amazing cause makes me feel even better. Even though the

Holidays are now over, It’s a  nice reminder to continue supporting organizations that give back to those in need not only during the holidays, but year round!
