8 tips to help you deal with COVID-19 stress | Project Life Wellness

COVID-19 stress. It’s a real thing.

I think It’s safe to say that the last few months have been beyond stressful for most people across the globe.

With the COVID-19 pandemic, E-learning, new schedules, new rules & regulations, job losses, and other craziness going on in the world today, most people are finding it hard to deal with the stresses of 2020.

For my family personally, It’s been a battle of finding our new “happy medium” with homeschooling my 5-year old, running my business, and still having time to do all the things.

COVID-19 changed everything

Everything has changed and as a Mom, Wife, and Business Owner, keeping my mental health front and center is crucial in order to make sure I’m showing up for everyone as my best self daily.

Luckily here in Chicago, we’ve had an incredible summer with sunny skies nearly daily–something that’s often a rarity in this part of the country. Although it doesn’t change the situation of the world, it does soften the blow a bit at least in the short term.

With that said, I’ve been taking advantage of the beautiful weather daily by working outside, taking walks, soaking up the sun, and letting my kids play in the backyard.

Putting your mental health first is crucial

Because there isn’t a solid end in sight at this time on when all of this madness will end, It’s absolutely necessary to take the proper steps to ensure that we are taking care of our mental and physical health on a daily basis.

I’ve compiled a list of how I’ve personally been dealing with the COVID-19 stress and what’s been working for me to help my immune system strong.

COVID-19 stress

Here are 8 tips to help you deal with COVID-19 stress

  1. Get fresh air daily. I don’t care if its 10 degrees of 100 degrees where you are, try and get at least 15-30 minutes of fresh air daily. I personally find that sitting in the sun for 10-15 minutes is enough to recharge my batteries and boost my mood. It also helps keep my Vitamin D levels in check which helps to boost immunity overall.
  2. Turn off the news. I know it can be tempting to turn on the news and be in the “know” all the time. But consider the fact that over 90% (if not more) of the news is NEGATIVE in nature. With that said, it can cause undue stress through fear and anger. Consider watching comedy, or replacing screen time all together by doing other activities you enjoy.
  3. Take frequent breaks to breathe and recharge. Many people right now are out of work. Those who aren’t are either back in the office or working from home. Regardless of where you’re working, make sure to take frequent breaks to breathe deeply and calm your nervous system. Deep breathing has many awesome benefits and can mean the difference between an over-stimulated nervous system, and one that’s calm.
  4. Turn off your phone at bedtime or put it in airplane mode. This one has been a game changer for me. I noticed that during the night, I would often get tempted to check my phone when I couldn’t sleep. This would often make insomnia worse and cause me to stay up all night. Add all the negative news that’s circulated on social media and It’s an absolute recipe for stress. Just…turn..it..off!! that way, you won’t be as likely to check it–it also helps you sleep better!
  5. Stay social, even It’s online. Many people are avoiding going out these days for several reasons. This can make one feel isolated and lonely–especially if they don’t have friends or family nearby. If this is the case for you, join online groups, make connections, and get on Zoom calls with friends as often as you can. Try searching for local community groups based on certain niches (you can find them on Facebook by searching groups) and set up daily or weekly calls.
  6. Distract yourself. I find that for me, putting all my energy into a goal helps me deal with the daily stressors of COVID-19. I have been working on several projects that have been keeping me busy and distracted from all the craziness going on in the world. Take up a new hobby, start a new book, or simply work on goals you’ve had on the back-burner.
  7. Take care of your physical health. Many people are worried about contracting the COVID-19 virus. Although our health isn’t always promised to us, there are steps you can take to ensure your immune system is kept strong. Good sleep, frequent water intake (to help flush out toxins), exercise, healthy eating, and taking supplements are all great ways to stay healthy. If you’re overweight, trying a new weight loss program, If you’re a smoker, quitting smoking. All of these things can help you avoid or at least lower your risk of contracting the virus–this can give you the peace of mind you need to help you deal with the stress as well.
  8. Try CBD oil for stress. I have been taking CBD oil for several years both in tincture and gel cap forms to help me deal with stress and anxiety. I recently began using Miraflora CBD oil last month and am absolutely obsessed. I use the tincture at bed time and the capsules during the day with meals.
