There’s a huge misconception that eating healthy in today’s society can be both difficult and expensive. However, by implementing just a few simple steps, you can be on your way to better health, sustained energy, and an overall improved outlook on life. It’s the small steps that we take every day that ultimately bring us closer to where we need to be.
Here are 4 easy steps to a real food kitchen overhaul
1. Read your Food Labels
It’s important to go through your kitchen pantry and refrigerator and remove anything which contains ingredients you can’t understand immediately.
Although it seems simple, this was a super hard concept for me to grasp and It kept me overweight, unhealthy, and in “food prison” for years.
The goal here is to keep foods in your pantry that have very few ingredients and ones you can actually understand like “avocado oil, peanuts, salt, cranberries…” Don’t over-complicate this. You’re an intelligent person.
If it isn’t a word you would use in everyday language then it’s not real food, you don’t want that chemical in your body, and it doesn’t belong in your pantry. This may sound extreme, but when I look at the current state of health in this country the answer IS extreme.
We can’t keep dumping toxic loads of garbage into the only body we have and expect to not reap a harvest of chronic illness. Our bodies aren’t meant to thrive on toxins. If we constantly bombard ourselves with this onslaught of poison, not only will we suffer, but our children will to!
Here’s the question. IF someone put those exact chemicals in front of you in their original container and offered to pour it on your food, or throw it in the trash….which would you choose? Go with that answer. Make it a habit. Your body will thank you.
2. Replace all Removed Food products with Whole Foods.
What is considered to be a Whole food? It simply means consuming food as close to its natural state as possible.
- Bake your own potato instead of eating a box of Augratin Processed Potatoes with tons of fake foods and fillers and chemicals.
- Slice a Pear instead of eating canned pears heavy laden in corn syrup or fake sugars.
- Put Avocado Oil and Lemon on your salad as dressing instead of Salad dressing with TONS of fake ingredients, and chemicals. (There are organic salad dressings out there that are fantastic, just be careful).
- Roast your own veggies (super easy) instead of eating Steam Fresh veggies with processed cheese sauce on it.
What you need to remember is that you CAN do this! As you start, It may take a bit to get used to, but just like anything else, the more you do it, the more second nature it becomes.
3. Rid your family’s health of GMO’s Pesticides/Herbicides, and eat organic as much as possible.
I get it. Buying organic can sometimes be more costly, harder to find, and some even think its just fancy marketing. However, we are a family of 6 and have seen dramatic results in our health since we started eating organic. Also, the improved health that you experience by eating Organic
We are RARELY sick, AND, nowadays the only way to avoid Genetically Modified Ingredients and the ever increasing popular weed killer carcinogen glyphosate, is to eat an organic diet. Not only is it a carcinogen, but it has been proven to wreak havoc on every other bodily system and cause autoimmune diseases, which are now rampant as well.
Shouldn’t these reasons alone be worth spending the extra few dollars? after-all, hospital bills can cost so much more!
The TOP 4 GMO’S (Genetically Modified Ingredients) are:
- Canola Oil
It’s important to note that ALL of these items can be consumed as long as they are labeled as Organic. When you buy Organic, you can rest assured that by law, these products cannot contain any Genetically Modified Ingredients.
4. Revamp your Health by adding Fruits, Veggies, and Berries in LARGE quantities to your diet.
Plant power is Key! We need plants now more than ever before. It takes 43 bowls of spinach to get the nutrition that 1 bowl of spinach had 50 years ago. Our soil is no longer nutrient dense and we have major crop rotation issues. So LOAD up! Plants carry a wide variety of healing properties and our bodies are SO deficient!
Also, keep in mind that when bridging your nutritional gap with anything other than the food on your plate, be sure to use products that carry a NUTRITION label, NOT a supplement label. You don’t want to pee it out. No one needs expensive pee.
It’s super important that you are taking something that is bioavailable, gets into your bloodstream and that your body knows what to do with. The Body knows what to do with food. You don’t want a fractionated synthetic supplement.
You want thousands of Phytonutrients! Also look for NSF certification. (the highest standard of quality assurance).
In closing, I want you to be encouraged that YOU CAN DO THIS, and that simple changes add up over time. Pat yourself on the back when you make these changes whether it’s several at once, or one at a time. Your health is worth it! I believe in your ability to TAKE YOUR HEALTH BACK.
