With Halloween just around the corner, I’ve been seeing more and more decor at big box retailers. Everything from costumes, candy, and Halloween themed items such as food, utensils, even children’s clothing.
Since my Son doesn’t like drinking cows milk, I try my best to incorporate calcium/protein rich foods in his diet such as cheese and incorporate cows milk in his smoothies. He’s always loved Mini Babybel® cheese because he loves the bright red wrapper and playing with the wax beneath…heck, I do too! I also love that It’s 100% real cheese.
During my recent trip to Target in search of a Halloween costume for him, I decided to make a quick grocery run as well. Low and behold, I found Halloween themed Babybel cheeses…how adorable!!!
I also picked up the Mini Babybel Light for my Husband and I. I haven’t been eating a lot of dairy products in this pregnancy. In fact, I only have meat and dairy once or twice a week and because of this, I have managed to keep my pregnancy weight gain in check.
I figured the “light” option would help with this! As always, my motto across my blog is that everything in moderation is OK as long as you aren’t going overboard!
The Halloween faces come in pumpkin, mummy, Frankenstein, devil, and ghost.
Halloween inspired “Mummy” Babybel cheese faces
I don’t consider myself too creative when it comes to food but every now and then, I tend to surprise myself…well kind of. I decided to make these fun, mummy-themed cheese heads to get in the Halloween spirit. Plus, they made my Son smile, that alone was worth it to me!
These are the perfect treat for your next work or self-hosted Halloween party. They are a healthier option than traditional halloween treats such as candy and chocolate.
Plus, they’re super simple to make! Here’s all that you’ll need:
- Mini Babybel Cheese®
- String Cheese
- Black olives OR Raisins
These are so simple to make, I feel silly even giving directions! however, all I simply did was peel off pieces of the string cheese and wrap them around the cheese. I then cut up black olives into tiny rectangles and positioned them underneath the top wrap to represent the mummy eyes.
You’ll want to work with string cheese that’s been taken out of the refrigerator for at least 10 minutes so that It’s easier to work with.
Make sure to gently press on the back of the cheese and loop a tooth pick through the back. Place back in fridge for 20 minutes.
This process helps the string cheese adhere better. Remove the toothpick and poke it through the bottom instead. Gently lay down on a fruit or vegetable tray and decorate to your liking.
I’m a minimalist to the core so I simply served them with celery and carrots.
