All-natural spring cleaning using 3 ingredients! + Enter to win $1,000!

It’s time for some spring cleaning!

It all started during my pregnancy in late 2014. I was about two and a half months pregnant when I decided that I was going to do away with all of my harsh cleaning products for the remainder of my pregnancy. So instead, I went to my local big box store and picked up all of the “natural” cleaners I could find. Some worked, some didn’t, and through trial and error, I eventually found the ones I would ultimately re-purchase.

Growing up, I had always noticed my Mother using regular white vinegar to clean the house but never really paid it any mind. I’m not a huge fan of the way vinegar smells which is why I avoided trying it myself despite being told over and over how wonderful it is. Throughout the tail end of my pregnancy just before my Son was born, I went through the inevitable “nesting” phase that most mothers-to-be go through where I literally wanted to clean anything and everything. I found an old un-opened bottle of vinegar and decided I would try using it once and for all.

I poured it into a plastic spray bottle with some water and was in awe at how well it cleaned and disinfected my kitchen counters, and everything else I sprayed it on. That was when I had my eureka moment to begin using it to clean just about everything. Vinegar is not only natural, it’s safe for the most part as long as you dilute it, and dirt cheap in comparison to some of the high end natural cleaning products out there.

What you’ll need:

– 1 gallon of water
– 1 cup of white vinegar
– 10-15 drops of essential oil of your choice (I chose lavender)

Spring cleaning

I needed a new mop since mine was old and filthy. I’m starting my spring cleaning early this year so I needed a mop that would perform well. So, I decided to head to Walmart in search of new mop! there are so many mop choices that it’s easy to get overwhelmed. I decided on the Libman Wonder mop because I had done my research prior and loved the fact that the head is machine washable up to 50-times.

Also, because of It’s microfiber gripstrips, It’s able to lift more dirt off the floors–which is great since my Son is a messy eater. My FAVORITE thing about the mop however is that it wrings out so easily and super effectively which means that It’s a lot less damp and can be used on surfaces such as laminate floors. I like that I can get back on the floor with minimal waiting time afterwards.

On a side note, it seems like all I do these days is clean. The older my Son gets, the bigger the messes get. Spills, crumbs, dirt, food marks….just about anything you can think of ends up on my floor both in the kitchen and everywhere else. This mop is literally perfect for our lifestyle and helps to get rid of every single stain.

We used their mop too and I love how light and easy it is! I really like using natural cleaning ingredients since my daughter was born, so I will have to try this!

thanks Vicki! yes i LOVE that it is so light and cleans so easily. I don’t find that hair gets stuck in it as it does in some of those stringy-type mops so def my new go-to.

I always felt the same way about vinegar. My MIL loves everything natural and vinegar is her number one cleaning product. I need to give it a try once and for all.

I’ve always knew vinegar was good to use for cleaning, but have never been a fan of the smell either! Does using the essential oils really mask the smell?

    • Projectlifewellness | 20th Mar 17

Yes it does! all i smelled was the lavender 🙂 then again i did add a lot of it lol

I love using my lemon and melaleuca essential oil to clean — great post!

Essential oils! Why didn’t I think of that? I’ve always wanted to use more natural cleaning methods, but the SMELL of the vinegar is too much for me. Is there a particular scent that you find masks the smell best?

This is very needed especially with it being the beginning of springtime, Thanks a bunch.
