There are very few things in this life I like more than chocolate.
In fact, I’m pretty sure I am a choclo-holic and yes, I’m declaring that an official disease. You can save your need for an intervention because this is an addiction that I am proud and happy to have. It means I get to enjoy decadent chocolate desserts on a very frequent basis and if I don’t, I start having withdrawals…believe me when I say, nobody wants that.
Being someone who tries to eat healthy 85% of the time, having a chocolate addiction can be tough. It means that I am constantly looking for new recipes in which I can incorporate chocolate but still be somewhat healthy. The other night after cleaning the house all day, I finally sat down and started to binge watch Lifetime movies (damn it, why do they have to be SO damn good?). Mid-way into a suspenseful drama, it hit me. I needed to have a sweet chocolaty dessert to supplement a tall glass of coconut milk I was planning on drinking later.
I had just bought a big jar of organic apple sauce and wanted to somehow incorporate it into the brownies. I began to look up recipes using apple sauce…however most of them called for eggs and/or butter, which I was out of plus, I wanted to create a vegan version instead. So, I decided to throw together my own scratch recipe with the ingredients I did have on hand and let me just tell you, they came out much better than expected. What’s great about this recipe is that you can control how much sugar you add plus, you don’t need to use that much oil. I felt that the apple sauce gave them a nice, moist texture. The end result was a beautiful dessert that went very well with my movie. Ever notice how all Lifetime movies end somewhat the same? someone gets shot and someone goes to jail. Let’s see some new material people!! Anyway, if you do end up trying this recipe out, let me know how you like it!
